A Senior Professor at the New York University Abu Dhabi and an Academic Advisor in the Field of Arabic Language Education. With over 20 years of experience in the Middle East and the USA, she has collaborated with prestigious institutions, like American Councils for International Education and Middlebury Language Schools.

Throughout her career, Dr Familiar has conducted workshops and webinars, globally trained teachers and worked on reshaping the landscape of Arabic language education.

Her contributions also extend to Arabic language assessment, where she actively participated in the development of proficiency tests, including the ACTFL Listening and Reading Computer-Adaptive Test. Moreover, she has authored scholarly works, edited short novels for Arabic learners, and launched an innovative platform called "Khallina", dedicated to exploring Arab cultures through open-source audiovisuals.
